General Statement
The Institute is the only research institution in Malta dedicated wholly since 1992, when it was founded as the European Documentation and Research Centre, to research and teaching in European Studies.
Given Malta’s geographic position, one of the Institute’s most important areas of focus is the Mediterranean region and particularly the EU’s policies in the region. The six resident full-time academic staff members are assisted in their work by a number of specialized visiting part-timers and support staff. The resident academic staff members are all specialised in European Studies but focus on a number of research priority areas.
The Mediterranean and Euro-Mediterranean relations have always featured prominently in the research and teaching objectives of the Institute.
